Enrichment Literature
In Enrichment Literature, the students read through either an historical novel, or a fictional novel. As the sections rotate enrichment classes each quarter, the book rotates as well. At the end of the quarter, the students in the class present different projects they created to present to the rest of the 8th grade. This promotes a deeper understanding of the storyline and the concepts in the book, for those who read it. It also gives the students who did not read this book an idea of what the story was all about.
Quarter 1: Section 8-2
In the first quarter, the students read A Break With Charity, about the Salem Witch Trials. For the first quarter, Mr. Hatfield's Enrichment History class (section 8-1) read the same book.
The Trial: with this book, there is always a mock trial, where 12 pre-selected audience members decide if the main character should be responsible for all the accusations of witchcraft, or if she should not bear the whole burden. Here are some pictures of that trial.
Quarter 2: 8-3
The second quarter saw a major change in enrichments. Section 8-3 had Literature, as scheduled, but so did members of section 8-2. Mr. Hatfield began his "At-Risk Study Hall", so most of the students in the section he would have had (8-2) had Mrs. Gonwa again. Not that it would matter - they read the same book in Enrichment History as they do in Literature. Anyway, here are photos of their final presentations. Unfortunately, I was working some equipment, and could not hear what was going on. But here are the pictures, anyway.
...But they don't get far! Stephanie and Kim round them up! |
